What to Eat to Get Pregnant
What To Eat To Get Pregnant…
With A Boy…Or With A Girl
What you eat in the years before you become pregnant can have a big effect on the health of your child as well as your own health; what you eat when you get pregnant also matters for gender selection.
If you are ill, underweight, overweight, or taking prescription medication, or are over age 35, it may be harder to get pregnant.
But we’ll assume you’ve already discussed any of these issues that are relevant for you with your healthcare provider and are eating healthy, getting enough exercise and sleep and are doing all you can for a healthy pregnancy to come.
You may be surprised to learn there is still more you can do to naturally increase your chances of getting pregnant AND of getting pregnant with the gender – either boy or girl – you most desire.
There are no guarantees (either that you will soon be pregnant or will have the baby gender of choice) – but MOST couples do become pregnant, and MOST do get the child they wished for, using natural methods (read the statistics here).
This post is what you need to eat for that to happen. I’ll assume you’ve already cut out the bad (sugary, fatty, full-of-preservatives) stuff and are eating plenty of healthy foods (lean meats, healthy fish, vegetables and fruits that are organically-grown).
If not, and you want some guidelines on diet to get pregnant, here is a good eating/exercise plan for pregnant mothers that is just as sensible when you’re trying to get pregnant; or you may prefer this one, designed by a mother and top nutritionist and highly-praised by thousands of mothers in North America.
How What You Eat Determines The Gender Of Your Future Child
The foods that you eat can affect the gender of your child for a variety of different reasons. One is that your body’s PH needs to be at a certain level at the time of ovulation and fertilisation, and this differs for getting pregnant with a boy or getting pregnant with a girl.
The sperm responsible for conceiving a boy carry the Y chromosome. They are small, agile and must reach their destination quickly before they expire (as almost all do long before reaching the egg). They need an alkaline environment to reach the egg properly.
The sperm responsible for conceiving a girl carry the X chromosome. They are much larger, more durable and though they may take longer to reach an egg, they have a greater chance of living long enough to succeed. They prosper in a slightly more acidic environment.
What to Eat To Get Pregnant With A Boy
Every present and future mother needs a healthy and balanced diet (which you get with the two eating plans mentioned above) to boost her health and vitality while also making sure she doesn’t gain a lot of baby fat during pregnancy.
In addition, if you want a boy, adding foods to your daily plan that contain potassium and sodium are important.
They are non-acidic by nature and will boost your alkalinity, which is necessary to help the Y sperm succeed. The recommended foods include bananas, sweet corn, lean red meats, and chocolate.
To conceive a boy, you do need more sodium (salt), but not a lot more. Look here for specific information.
What to Eat To Get Pregnant With A Girl
In order to have a girl, you need to focus on foods that will boost acidity in your body just before and during ovulation until sperm and egg unite. They include foods that are rich in magnesium and calcium. Broccoli is the perfect example of a food that contains high levels of both.
Other foods you should eat include grapefruit, dairy products, some fish (be cautious about avoiding fish with medium- to higher -mercury levels) and leafy green vegetables.

The best book I have found on what to eat to get pregnant – and everything else you can do to naturally select the gender of your baby – is by former midwife and mother Alicia Pennington. It’s called Prince or Princess Guide.
